When: September 7th ~ 14th, 2018
Where: Madrid, Toledo, & Barcelona!
A trip to Spain is like an adventure into a fairytale. The immense castles and unique architecture along with beautiful people and exquisite cuisine are enough to make a great trip. We have combined tours through Madrid and an optional extension to Barcelona with pickleball to create a trip of a lifetime. Receive world-class instruction, take a siesta and refuel with spoonfuls of Paella. This is a trip you do not want to miss!
Day 1 – Arrival in Madrid, Pickleball Trips Clinic (Friday, September 7th)
Plan your trip to arrive in Madrid this day (this means you may have to leave North America on September 6 th ). Upon arrival, take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. The cost is 30 euros and further instructions will be provided on the address etc. We will meet in the afternoon to walk from the hotel to a nearby park, where we will have our first pickleball clinic. Dinner is a light tapas dinner since you will be tired from the journey.
Day 2 & 3 – Tournament
There will be a tournament bus to pick us up from the hotel in the morning. From there, we will be at the tournament venue all day, where there is a café and restaurant serving a variety of food and drinks. The schedule of events will be announced closer to the time of the tournament.
Day 4 – Toledo
This morning we take an early bus from Madrid to the ancient capital and UNESCO World Heritage site of Toledo (1 hour). A guide meets us to take us sightseeing, show us around the city and tell us about the history of this fascinating town. After lunch and some time to stroll around we return to Madrid where dinner is a Spanish style feast at Zerain.
Day 5 – Pickleball, Prado, & Flamenco
We have a pickleball session at the park this morning where we further our skills with instruction and play. In the afternoon, a professional guide takes us to see the famous Prado Museum with some of the most important pieces of art in the world. We get a highlight tour though, as we don’t have time to explore all 130 rooms. A lively Flamenco dinner show caps off the day, just a few minute walk from the hotel.
Day 6 – Madrid ~ Barcelona
We depart Madrid early this morning for the 3-hour train ride to Barcelona on the Mediterranean coast. The train is extremely safe and comfortable, traveling at speeds of almost 200 miles per hour. We arrive at the hotel around noon and have some free time for lunch. In the afternoon, a local guide meets us to take us on a tour of the Gothic quarters of the city. We walk to our dinner, a traditional Catalonian feast prepared in a popular restaurant.
Day 7 – Pickleball in Barcelona
This morning we drive 30 minutes to the University of Barcelona, where we conduct our Barcelona pickleball session. The university campus overlooks the beautiful city and sea in the background. After returning to our hotel, you have a free afternoon to explore the city. Keep in mind that tomorrow we will be seeing the Sagrada Familia and Gaudi area of Barcelona.
Day 8 – Sagrada Famila, Barcelona ~ Madrid
Our same guide meets us this morning to take us to the one and only Sagrada Familia Church. This building has been under construction since 1882 and truly stands as a one of a kind monument. We also visit an apartment building that Gaudi himself designed. Returning to the hotel, we pack up to take the train back to Madrid. For some, this will be your last dinner in Spain – at least for now.
